A Check-In From Camp

Can't believe we're already halfway through July. Unfortunately, this means we're halfway through Camp NaNo as well, although my word count isn't anywhere near the halfway mark.

Still, with my word count below where I'd like it to be, I wanted to take a break to let you all know what I have been up to.

On the subject on Camp NaNo, I'm using it to once again finish projects I started but never got around to finishing the first drafts of. I've learned one thing --- I really need to stop putting off projects. So far this month I've written the first draft of S.A.M. (a YA Sci-fi) and continued work on TINMAN (1920s detective) as well as written the first draft of a new picture book. (See? This is why I have trouble finishing anything. Inspiration strikes for something else and I drop everything to work on the new idea.) I'm back to working on TINMAN today with hopes of finishing the first draft this week. Then comes the fun part of editing and revisions.

In other news, WHAT THE TOWN KNEW is moving forward to become self-published in March. I've gotten cover sketches and all I can say is that it's going to be amazing. The manuscript itself is out with a last round of readers before I send it out to an editor.

With the editor and cover as well as marketing, the expense for this book is tallying up. With that in mind, I'm planning on doing a Kickstarter in the next month or so. While I'm working out the details of it, I'd love to hear from you guys what you'd like to see as prizes (obviously within reason ;-) ) for donating. I have several tiers worked out, but input from all of you is always appreciated. Who knows, I may change the tiers I have if someone comes up with something awesome.

That's my summer so far in a nutshell. How's everyone else enjoying the season?
